About the Role

A transport technology organisation is seeking an Engineering Lead to guide an agile product team working on edge software. This is a hands-on leadership role, combining technical contribution with responsibility for helping the team deliver working software each sprint.

You’ll partner with a product manager and collaborate with a broader engineering community. The team’s technology focus includes C++ or Rust, embedded Linux and data communications, offering the chance to lead delivery while staying close to the engineering work.

What You'll Be Doing

• Partner with a product manager to shape priorities and guide incremental delivery.
• Contribute to C++ or Rust software development across libraries, applications or APIs.
• Lead technical decisions and support software quality, reliability and performance.
• Customise Linux platforms for hardware, including configuration, packages and patching.
• Build integrations from data communications protocols using robust handlers and serialisers.
• Maintain CI/CD pipelines and artefact workflows that support build, test and release.
• Promote automated testing, code reviews and practical engineering standards.
• Coach team members and share effective practices with the wider engineering community.

What You'll Need (Essential)

• Professional experience delivering production software in C++ or Rust, with ownership of features or components over multiple releases.
• Hands-on professional Linux platform experience, including customising or building OS images for hardware with embedded Linux tooling such as Yocto, multistrap or equivalent.
• Experience leading or guiding an agile engineering team delivering working software each sprint.
• Experience interpreting protocol specifications and implementing integrations, handlers or serialisers.
• Experience with source control, CI/CD pipelines and artefact repositories.
• Practical automated testing experience as part of software delivery.
• Experience mentoring or coaching engineers, or sharing engineering practices.

Nice to Have

• Experience optimising software for compute, memory or network-constrained environments, including algorithm optimisation or data compression.
